The objective of this course is to introduce the basic concepts of masonry, tool use, job safety, mixing & spreading mortar for block application and the assembly of scaffolding. Upon Completion a student should have a grasp of and a familiarity with Masonry practice and terminology required to begin a career in the masonry field as a Mason Tender.

Mason's Apprentice

This course is designed to fully prepare a student for an "apprenticeship" role in the masonry work environment. Great emphasis is placed on the students' ability to accurately lay various types of CMU's (Concrete Masonry Unit) both on a wall and in lead building. The focus of this course is on the perfection of the students' ability to lay plumb and level projects rather than on speed.

This course requires the culmination of knowledge from its prerequisites. Students will be required to take a series of tests, involving many different types of CMU's, with the emphasis placed on both speed and accuracy. Students will be taught to read basic Blue Prints and are required to build various projects using them. Students will also learn the basics of Estimation and at the end of the course have the ability to Estimate small jobs. After completion of this course students will have the ability to seek gainful employment as a Mason within the construction industry.
